Welcome to Open Removals! We're excited to assist you with your move and want to ensure you know exactly what to expect from start to finish. This guide will walk you through our moving process, providing transparency and helping to instill confidence in our services.
Please note that the time frames stated in this blog post are based on one 3.5-ton box van.
Arrival and Preparation
Step 1: Carpet Protection When we arrive at your home, our first task is to protect your carpets. We lay down rubber floor runners, which shield your carpets from dirt and damage.
Step 2: Furniture Protection Next, we carefully cover your sofas and mattresses with padded covers to prevent any damage during transit.
Step 3: Wrapping and Dismantling We then shrink wrap and blanket wrap all furniture and white goods, including drawers. At this point, we also assess if any furniture needs dismantling. Please be aware that dismantling furniture will add time to the job and may incur additional costs if you are on a fixed-price agreement or will increase the total on an hourly rate.
Once everything is prepared, a process that usually takes around 20-30 minutes, we begin loading your belongings onto the van
Step 4: Loading TVs and Delicates When we start loading, TVs and other delicate items are usually placed at the top of the Luton if they are small enough. If not, they will be the last things loaded. Please note that we have one 55-65" TV cover and a padded picture bag that can hold around 8 pictures. We request that pictures be bubble or cardboard wrapped; if not, they will be blanket wrapped by us but TVs not in the original box won't be insured.
Step 5: Strategic Loading We start by loading the larger items of furniture or stackable boxes first. This helps us make the best use of space and ensures a stable load. We ask that anything that can go in a box or bag is packed accordingly to ensure safe transit. Please note that our insurance does not cover boxes packed by customers, so it's important to pack items securely.
Step 6: Estimated Loading Time Loading a full box van typically takes between 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on various factors such as access to the property. This gives you an idea of the time frame involved.
Unloading at the New Property
Carpet Protection Upon arrival at your new home, we again lay down carpet protectors unless you prefer otherwise.
Step 7: Unloading We begin unloading your belongings and place each item in the room of your choice. We strive to place larger items in their desired positions if you have decided on your layout. This part of the process is at your discretion.
Estimated Unloading Time Unloading typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. The process is generally faster than loading because items don't need to be placed as strategically.
Final Steps
Final Check and Payment Once unloading is complete, we ask you to check the van to ensure all your belongings have been unloaded. Finally, we request the remaining balance, which can be paid by card machine, cash, or bank transfer before we leave the job.
We hope this detailed guide helps you understand our moving process and what to expect on moving day.
